What is KEFIR?

 

KEFIR originates from the Turkish word “Keif” meaning good feeling.

 

Kefir is fermented milk originating in the Caucasus Mountains where it has been used for centuries. Micro flora of Kefir grains are complex and contain 30 different species of lactic acid bacteria including various species of Lactobacillus, Lactococcus and yeasts.

Make your own KEFIR!
You can make your own Kefir very easily. Just add a sachet to 1 litre of milk and let KEFIR micro flora to do its work.  Wait till the milk starts to settle (approx. 24 hours) then place it in the fridge for approx. 12 hours.  This allows KEFIR to mature and get its special taste. By using the same culture of KEFIR you can inoculate several batches making it more economical.
