The primary use of Meadowsweet has been in conditions of the stomach. It has traditionally been used for symptoms of the gastrointestinal system, such as flatulence and some cases of indigestion. It has been found to help in normalising secretions of the stomach.

It is interesting to note that Meadowsweet played a role in the development of aspirin many years ago. The component ‘salicylic acid’ was isolated from the flowerbuds, and it was this that was later synthesised and became an important drug in the 19 th century. This has since been modified to become the aspirin that we know today.

In addition to the gastrointestinal tract this herb can also be of assistance in helping to relieve the joint pain as well as to relieve burning and frequency that may occur in the urinary tract.
