Of all the amino acids L-Arginine holds the unusual distinction of being both an essential and non-essential amino acid. In infants and young children, the demand for L-Arginine is very high to meet the demands of a growing body. Young children lack the ability to make L-Arginine and thus, for them, it's classified as an essential amino acid. Later on in life, adults gain the ability to manufacture L-Arginine.
